School Refusal (Not currently offering this service)
When your child is refusing to go to school, it not only has a significant impact on their education, social development and mental health, it affects the whole family.
Having worked for many years in a secondary school in a pastoral role, I built up a significant amount of experience of working with young people who refused to go into school for a variety of reasons, but typically anxiety. This involved working with parents/carers, school staff and the child themselves to get them back into school.
Having gone away and gained several more years experience working with mental health issues and training as a clinical psychologist, I am drawn to return to this challenging but important work.
Services I can offer as part of this school refusal work:
-
Assessing and developing an understanding of the issues
-
Working with the family and school to come up with a plan that works for everyone
-
Offering 1:1 therapy with the child (in their home or at school) to help them develop the skills to overcome anxiety
-
Attachment and trauma training for school staff
-
Consulting with and offering support to key pastoral staff
-
Speaking to and helping with referrals to mental health services
-
Writing assessment letters for EHCP applications
